Detroit Samples was born in 1963.  He is a producer and musician.  He plays the organ, keyboard, and piano.  He attends Anointed House of Prayer.  He serves as the Minister of Music for the church.  He also serves as the musical director for the Greater Buelahland Fellowship.

Detroit was a very quiet and shy child.  He often hid in his music.  He did not play publicly until he was 19. While he was attending Kovach University in 1982, he met
D. M. Adkins.  She had just formed a gospel choir. He asked if he could join the choir.  When he sung at the audition, he sounded terrible.  He was rejected as a member of the choir.

At the next audition, he asked if he could played the organ and keyboard.  This time he blew the audition committee away. He was accepted as a member of the band.  He remained a full-time member of the group until 1997.  He still travels and performs with the group.

He formed his own production company, Ain't That Samples.
